Simulated location
Set the coordinates the device reports, so location-dependent behaviour can be tested without travelling.
Setting a position
Section titled “Setting a position”- Select the device.
- Enter coordinates, or pick a point.
- Apply.
Apps requesting location get the simulated position. It is temporary: it lasts for the session and is cleared when you stop it or disconnect.
What it is for
Section titled “What it is for”Region-dependent content. Different catalogue, different pricing, different legal text by country. Testing that by flying somewhere is not a plan.
Geofences. Entry and exit behaviour, tested at a desk rather than by driving to a boundary.
Distance and sorting. “Nearest branch” is only correct if you can stand somewhere else and check.
Empty-state handling. What the app does at coordinates where you have no data at all — mid-ocean is the classic test.
Permission flows. How the app behaves when location is available, denied, or coarse.
What it does not change
Section titled “What it does not change”This is worth being precise about, because it is the source of most confusion:
- It sets the reported position, not the network. Requests still leave from your real IP address. A service that geolocates by IP will not be fooled, and the two disagreeing is itself a case worth testing.
- It does not change the locale, the region setting or the time zone. Those are device settings. An app reading
Locale.currentsees no difference. - It does not move continuously. It sets a point. Testing a moving route means setting successive points.
- Some apps detect it. Apps with anti-spoofing checks may behave differently or refuse to run. That is their prerogative, and KeyMob does not work around it.
Use it for testing
Section titled “Use it for testing”Simulated location is a testing feature. Using it to misrepresent your position to a service — for an advantage in a game, to defeat a regional restriction, to falsify a record — is outside what the user agreement permits, and depending on the service may break its terms or the law.
Clearing it
Section titled “Clearing it”Stop the simulation, or disconnect the device. If a device seems stuck reporting the wrong position after a session, restart it; the simulation does not survive a reboot.
